what is prs?

prs or 'prs for music' is the 'performing right society' and is a society of songwriters, composers and music publishers. it's basic function is to collect monies for the use of their members' music. PRS for Music collects licence fees from anyone that uses music for a business benefit, and then pays royalties to music creators in the UK and around the world. visit prsformusic.com for more information.

ppl or phonographic performance limited is a uk based music licensing company and performance rights organisation founded by Decca and EMI in 1934. PPL licenses recorded music played in public or broadcast and then distributes the licence fees to its performer and rights holder members. ppl is not affiliated with prs however both organisations have anounced a new joint venture that will start licensing in 2017.

do i need a prs or ppl licence to download  and use mellow soul music?

do i need a prs or ppl licence to 'stream' mellow soul music?

unfortunately, yes. a prs or ppl license gives you permission to stream music from services such as spotify and this covers all music on that service. so basically, even if you were to only stream mellow soul music you would still require a prs and ppl licence simply to use the spotify service in your business.

can i use mellow soul music in my video?

as mentioned before you do not require a prs or ppl licence to use our music within your business however you do require a broadcast licence if you wish to use our music in your video or any other type of broadcast. music purchased from itunes or similar outlets will not contain the correct licence to use our music so please make sure you go to the 'video makers and youtubers' page from our homepage.
